Baseball & Architecture

Professional baseball traces its origin back to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1881. Cincinnati is now hosting Major League Baseball’s 2015 All-Star Game, and to celebrate, the local chapter of the American Institue of Architects is sponsoring this open international baseball-themed photography competition.

While the game doesn’t require anything more than a field and some base markers to be played, architecture has always provided some of the game’s most iconic and memorable places. Fans and architects alike obsess over the design of their stadiums, but even the humble places where we learned to play as children are etched in our minds. Show us the places where your friends and families love the game and share your stories!

Vote for your favorites online and support a great baseball charity

With every contest entry or vote for your favorite entries online, you are supporting the Butler County Challenger Baseball League! Challenger Baseball is where kids starting at age 5 through adulthood with developmental disabilities make new friends and come together as a team to be cheered on to greatness, just as a typical child or adult would.

How to Enter

Simply visit the competition website listed below and donate to enter or vote. For each charity donation of $10, you can enter one image in the competition, along with your stories about what the photos mean to you. Have your friends and family vote online for the winners! Each $1 vote supports special needs baseball in Cincinnati through the Butler County Challenger League.

Rules of Competition

The competition theme is “The Architecture of Baseball” and is quite open-ended, provided the photograph includes some element of the built environment and is related to baseball. This could include an image of a professional sports stadium in a major metropolitan area, a dilapidated youth league dugout in a rural location, or kids playing in the sandlot ield of an international urban village. Be sure to share what the image means to you in your entry comments...the stories matter!

Awards

Online votes will determine the People’s Choice 1st ($300), 2nd ($200), and 3rd ($100) place awards. A panel jury appointed by the American Institute of Architects will also award three Jury’s Prizes ($200), a Best Architecture ($100), and a Best Story ($100) award. Top entries may also appear in printed or online exhibition during the July All-Star weekend in Cincinnati!
