A paragraph that tells voters something fun or interesting about the pet in the photo. Is this a rescue pet? If so, how long has he or she been a part of your family? Can you share something special that we could include on our calendar if your photo wins?
We rescued Abbey from the WHS - Bensalem in May of 2012, She would share her new home with Nelly a Yorkie doggie, and later move out with her human parents and live with Nahum, a Great Dane. She was brought in as a stray so we had no history on her except she was 2-3 years old. When we brought her home she was very protective of all things food. Very early on, she literally laid on a package of gravy mix that had fallen on the floor, and if we went near her she would "go after us". This lasted several hours until she would walk away from that gravy. Another time we found an entire loaf of of half eaten bread behind our couch. The longer we had her the more secure she became that she would always be fed. In time she started cuddling & giving kisses. In August of 2014 she was not feeling well, after many vet visits and many tests, we found out that Abbey was a lot closer to maybe 7 or 8 years old, and she was sick. Abbey was diagnosed with kidney failure. She received outpatient care for a week at our vet's office, and then we were given the task of giving her medication daily, which included IV fluids everyday. She had some good days and some bad days, more visits to the vet, more medications. On January 24, 2015, she let us know that it was time to let her go. Abbey loved walks, car rides, snuggling with her Great Dane brother Nahum on his bed. Abbey was our first rescue, and she made a lasting impact on us. We've since adopted Gigi, a puppy mill rescue from Logan's Heroes, and Winston, a Dachshund who was headed to a shelter. Abbey was just such a unique dog in so many ways. When she crossed that Rainbow bridge, she took a little piece of each of our hearts with her.
