Your Pet's Rescue Story
I rescued Penny when she was just a puppy at four months old in 2019. Living on my own, in a new career and in a new home, I knew I wanted a dog, at least just for some company. I've loved dogs my whole life, but always had smaller dogs in the family growing up. When I started my journey and was looking into adopting a dog, getting a "big dog" was never what I expected. I remember first looking on Facebook at the rescues page and saw the cutest little dog with these funny short legs. I immediately fell in love with that puppy in the photo and the little "mask" it looked like she was wearing because of the spots on her face. The little bio about her read, her and another puppy were found in Ocala FL with no mom, she was social, and liked cats and was very snuggly and sometimes timid outside. I close my laptop and went to go meet her the next day! To my surprise, when I got there, I asked for her and showed them the photo and asked, "Do you know what she's mixed with with that gave her those small legs?". They kind of just looked at me then and said, "oh, that dog does not have small legs and she's probably mixed with bigger breeds. Honestly, they're actually quite long! We're not sure why she looks like that in the photo.". At that moment I did have an oh gosh feeling and thought "oh no, can I handle a big dog?!" and then, this silly little puppy came out and literally jumped into my arms and that was it. We have been snuggling every day sense, and she is the absolute definition of my best friend. I don't know where I would be without her. She's been by my side through a pandemic, many different jobs, a few different relationships and she is just the best ever. Her personality is so funny and so cute. She can definitely be so stubborn at times and it's even called the lay down dog by a few neighbors! Her silly little tendencies are what make her the absolute best and funniest. Penny is the definition of a gentle giant, and would literally not hurt a fly (because she's terrified of them!) She is so sweet and just wants a hug all the time and little kiss on the forehead. I am so thankful for this little baby cow that came into my life four years ago! Now a big sister to her puppy brother, Fenrir, she has surprised me so much growing into the big sis role, that I was a little nervous about in the beginning. I can't wait to see what other fun adventures are in store for us in the future.
