Pet's Story
Benson came to me as a foster 3 days after losing my love, Sadie. I needed something to keep me busy during feeling such grief. I had inquired about fostering a dog during my first weekend alone. He was in an office with a leash on to help him get used to it. I was returning my foster baby rats in the same office. He watched us closely, but at a distance. After talking to a friend as we sat in the floor in the office I mentioned how I might be interested in fostering him. We did a quick dog to cat test, and after getting a swat from the cat with little reaction, it seem like he might work in my home. It turned out that the swat scratched his nose. As I cleaned up the bleeding scratch he slowly leaned in. Before we left I changed his name to Benson and we had a crate and food all set for him. He had to be carried out to my car, he melted himself into my car seat, he was afraid of coming into the house and any doors, sounds, things that moved, but not the food bowl. I found out later he was labeled "the shutdown dog" which meant he did nothing during his temperament test. So, the project began. He needed me, and I quickly found out I needed him. My foster for the weekend was adopted 3 weeks later! Happy Valentine's Day to us!!
