Pet's Story/Bio
Pia had a rough beginning in life -- by the time we adopted her at 5 years old in January 2014, she had already been adopted and returned three times and had been living in the shelter for more than a year! In fact, she was one of the shelter's longest staying dogs. When we first met her, we immediately knew she was a keeper. She greeted us so happily and enthusiastically and was so eager to play with us! She also knew several commands really well, like sit, down, stay, shake, and roll over. We couldn't imagine why she had been overlooked at the shelter for so long and were so glad to finally offer her a forever home -- one with a doggie companion and two rambunctious boys to play with her and entertain her. It took her a few weeks to adjust to her new home, but once she settled in, it seemed like she had always been a part of the family. When she's not running around in the yard playing fetch, chase, chewing up tennis balls, playing tug-of-war with her doggie companion, chasing squirrels, happily going on her daily walks, barking at anybody or anything that comes near the house, looking for food scraps in the kitchen, or chewing on a bone, she is usually curled up in a ball, burrowed underneath the couch cover of the family room couch she adopted soon after she arrived. When I see that lump on the couch, I smile, knowing our sweet Pia is content as can be and that her days at the noisy, cold shelter are now a distant memory.
