One of Flagstaff, Arizona's most iconic businesses, Late for the Train is best known for its artisan small batch coffee roasting. Furthering its mission to "Brew Community in a World-Class Cup," Late for the Train has joined forces with Second Chance Center for Animals in search of the spokesdog and spokescat who will appear on the labels of the new "2016 Rescue Roast" that will debut this fall. Donations from entering and voting in the contest plus proceeds from coffee sales will benefit Second Chance's efforts to save more lives of dogs and cats in Northern Arizona.

Entries for the contest will be accepted from May 1, 2016 to June 30, 2016. Voting for your favorites will be from July 1, 2016 to August 31, 2016. One winning dog and one winning cat will be selected as Grand Prize Winners from the top five dog entries and the top five cat entries. Finalists and winners will be announced in September, 2016.


Arizona artist Connie Townsend is best known for her playful paintings of dogs riding motorcycles and driving cars, and pet portraits that some collectors believe "captured my beloved dogs true spirit". Her sense of humor is expressed most dramatically in her dog series, and she admits that her favorite response to the work is "your paintings make me smile". Townsend's evolution and passion for painting happened through a slow process of accumulating life experiences. She has supported Second Chance Center for Animals through her work since 2004.
