Your Pet's Story
Max is a 6-year old, Golden Labrador Retriever, rescued by our very own Community Outreach Director, Barry KuKes. Max has stepped into the role of the Halifax Humane Society mascot and event representative. Max accompanies Barry to many third-party events, school presentations, and fundraising events.

Max is very good with children. Many children with learning disabilities fall in love with Max because although quite a large dog, his demeanor is so welcoming that kids lose their fear and inhibitions when he is with them. In a class setting, the kids are asked to listen about the HHS and our programs and history. At any time, Barry will ask a question about something he mentioned, like how many years has HHS been saving homeless animals? The one who answers the questions correctly first, gets to give Max a treat and shake his paw. The kids really listen up once they understand the reward.
