Your Pet's Story
A little over two years ago, this bundle of boundless love & energy named Sammy came to live with me. Though he did not come to me from HHS, a friend told me about this dog who was basically abandoned & living most of the day inside a cage; he needed a real home and owner. Though still grieving the death of my last dog, a Basset hound, I took a risk and my life hasn't been the same since.
Having Sammy come live with me was a lot like adopting a toddler--he moves almost nonstop, doesn't care one bit if he's dirty, and loves playing in the sprinklers. When I have him washed and groomed, my friends all laugh and take bets on how long he will stay clean. One of our favorite parts of each day is walking in beautiful Ormond Beach with our next-door dog, a golden retriever.
Ever since I was a little girl, I lived with a canine friend. At one point as an adult, I even owned three dachshunds and a Basset hound together! When I met Sammy, I didn't know he would teach me about acceptance, first of all by accepting that he isn't a hound dog. Though we are still working together on his discipline, he is learning to obey, now that he knows he can trust me. He's so smart and resilient. I show him that I will stay and he teaches me how to play. Thank you, Sammy! ♥︎
