It was a dark and stormy night when Patches' mother showed up on the doorstep of our friend Jim's house very pregnant and malnourished. Her instincts were good, Jim took her in and two days later she gave birth to six kittens. Patches was the fifth and last to survive at birth thereby becoming the runt, very small but fiercely determined.
