Dog's Story or Bio
Charlie (formerly Charge) is a rescue dog from 3rd Coast Labrador Retriever Rescue currently in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In his first year he had no training, did not walk on leash, had no exercise, and soon became the alpha dog in his first home. He was surrendered to 3rd Coast because the original owners could not handle him. Be assured that his former status of super alpha dog has changed with lots of love and patience.
He was a big boy nearly tipping the scales at 100 lbs, but is now a fairly svelte 84 lbs. He has a good heart, a sweet disposition, loves to snuggle on the couch at night, and is a counter surfer. He had a successful ACL surgery nearly 7 weeks ago and he has been on a short leash with no jumping or running since the surgery. The silver lining of this scenario of keeping him on a short leash is that he was tethered to us during his waking hours and we were able to establish a real bond. This will be a great base for further training.
Currently he has developed the following skills: walking on leash; responding to simple commands (sit, down, and come); and grabbing a salmon burger from the counter in a mili-second. (We are working on that!)
We are really looking forward to his being able to be leash free in the field and on the lakeshore until his second ACL surgery next year.
We love Charlie and we feel so fortunate to have 3rd Coast Labrador rescue in our lives.
