My husband was not interested in Peanut when we first saw him at the shelter: his enormous head and jaw, and tank-like body, made my husband VERY wary. There were plenty of smaller dogs to consider! But as we spent more time with Peanut, it became clear just how gentle he was.
It turns out that this pattern describes Peanut’s life perfectly: people’s eyes widen when they see him coming, but his friendliness and joie de vivre shine through. People approach and start asking questions, especially, “What kind of dog is he?” And so, one person at a time, Peanut changes perceptions about pit bulls—including my dad’s and my next-door neighbor’s.
As for my husband, he and Peanut are now inseparable!
