Artemis (aka Kit Kat) is a brand new addition to our family, adopted from the BC SPCA Victoria Branch on 24 March 2015.
When I met her she was recovering from being spayed a week prior but beyond that was bright and healthy. The first moment I set eyes on her I felt an incredible connection that brought me to tears and knew in that moment she was the one. Unknowingly to me and the staff of the Victoria SPCA she would suffer from a rare complication from the spay only 24 hours following the adoption and begin bleeding internally. By the grace of God I was able to get her to the emergency clinic where the staff began to prep her for surgery before she slipped into critical condition. For the next 24 hours Artemis bravely battled for her life as the doctor and staff from Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital (CVVH) worked feverishly to save her. The Victoria SPCA contacted me immediately upon hearing about Artemis to offer their support. It is because of the compassion and generosity of the doctors and staff at CVVH and the staff at Victoria BC SPCA that Artemis was able to receive the lifesaving care she required. There are no words that can express my gratitude for giving Artemis a second and a third chance at a wonderful life. By saving her life, her love has in turn filled a hole in my heart I didn't realise needed filling until I met her. She is my Hero!
I only hope that Artemis' personal story can be the voice for other animals in need.
