Rufus was found as a stray outside of Calgary and brought to the Calgary Humane Society. He had so many injuries and was so frightened of everything, no one could get close to him, and they didn't know if he was going to make it. Thankfully, Rufus made small progress over a few months and was eventually q put up for adoption. That's where we met. I was a volunteer dog walker, and there was something about his eyes that I immediately fell in love with him. He was so terrified, that it took me 30 minutes to leash him the first time. But I knew that was my boy. So within 48 hours he came home with me.

Now, Rufus is one of the funniest and loyal dogs I've ever seen. He is so relaxed around the house and loves his dog brother and sister so much. He's very protective of his mom, but it's a completely co-dependent relationship, because I need him just as much.

My partner and I moved to Vancouver two years ago, and now Rufus is living his best life on the coast. He is our side kick, and loves hiking, paddleboarding, and of course breweries! We frequent the patios with him regularly and he is always the hit of the patio.

We call Rufus the Kool-Aid man because he has no self awareness and regularly walks right through things.

To see the transformation of this dog from terrified and broken to thriving and playful is one of the most gratifying experiences of my life.
