Birch is a sweet senior setter who came to live with us this year through a twist of fate. Waiting to purchase a show dog of an entirely different breed, I found myself aimlessly searching Petfinder one night in sadness, when the breeding never took. Sooner or later I stumbled across Birch's page, and we fell in love then and there. So not knowing quite why, and with no experience with deaf, rescue, bird dogs, we followed our hearts straight to him. Birch has been through a terrible past of loss, abuse, and neglect, but shows us nothing but love and excellent behavior. He arrived struggling with some GI and mobility issues, but now is healthy, does stairs, runs around the yard, quickly learned some hand signals and has even caught 2 birds! We gifted him with the name Birch, as that is often the first tree to regrow in a forest following a fire. He loves to snooze with his tongue hanging out, must know where his people are at all times, and enjoys stalking the yard for exciting things. Birch shares his life with 2 kids, a terrier, and an indoor bunny, who have all been his best friends from day one. Birch's resiliency, gratitude, willingness to trust and try new things, and his forever positive attitude inspires us each day. We could not have asked for a better match for our family.
