Abandoned Pet Rescue (APR), founded in 1996, is a 501(c)(3) IRS tax-exempt, qualified non-profit organization that rescues and shelters abandoned, abused, and neglected pets, rehabilitates them and finds them forever, loving homes.
APR reduces the feral cat population through a trap/neuter/return program, preventing the birth of thousands of unwanted cats each year.
As the largest no-kill animal shelter in Fort Lauderdale and one of the largest in South Florida, Abandoned Pet Rescue is devoted to the welfare of 300 cats and dogs who cannot wait to find their forever home.
APR relies on the community for support. It enables us to continue our life-saving work. We keep our adoption fees as low as possible. Our vet expenses are substantial, due to the horrific condition of some of the abused/neglected dogs and cats, who come through our doors. None of our volunteers are paid for their time or for the wonderful care they provide for the pets.
Any dog or cat who lands on our doorstep is provided with a comfortable bed, nutritious meals and necessary veterinary care as they await adoption by a forever family. In addition to being spayed/neutered, every Abandoned Pet Rescue pet is provided updated vaccinations, a microchip implant, tested for heart-worms and other parasites and provided medical treatment for any known condition. Cats are tested for Feline AIDS and Leukemia.
We rely on our community to help us provide shelter, vaccines, and medical care for all the animals in our care before their forever home is found. Financial donations are essential to our organization's ability to carry out its mission every day and are tax deductible as allowed by law. Every gift helps and matters!
