My Pet's Story
Claude is a 10 year old rescue from APR! He spent his whole life with a doting elderly woman in the same house. When she passed and he ended up in the shelter he completely shut down, refusing to eat or drink. Days and days would pass without him even going to the bathroom. Claude literally lost his will to live! After I took him home, he spent days and days under a dresser, shoving his head into the wall. He didn't respond to treats, food, or pets. I had to resort to rubbing a calorie-packed goo on his gums. Very slowly Claude began eating and drinking and moving again. His whole world had changed and it was a lot for him to process. Over time he saw I wasn't going anywhere, and gradually trusted me more and more. Today he follows me everywhere and is my constant shadow. He has become the alpha and takes it upon himself to protect me and my other cat. He investigates every new change in the apartment and sleeps by my side every night. It's hard to describe how wonderful it is to see him trust and love again. He was so heartbroken and now loves life. He inspires me!
