My Pet's Story
I rescued Frida from APR in February after she had been surrendered by her previous owners at 6 years old. Formerly known as Cranberry, poor Frida had been through a lot by the time I came across her at the shelter. Besides the trauma of being returned, she was battling a nasty case of stomatitis that created painful abscesses in her mouth, inflaming her teeth and making it difficult for her to eat. She also had various skin issues and an irritated GI tract. Nevertheless, it was obvious that this little lady had a huge personality to everyone at the shelter! She would loudly meow for pets and couldn't get enough attention! We felt strongly this little spunky lady deserved another chance. We removed Frida's teeth and have treated her infections. She has gained weight and today her coat has the most beautiful ebony glossy sheen! Most rewarding is to watch her quirky and eccentric personality come out. She was skittish at first, but today she loves playing with her big brother and demanding pets from her mom at all hours. Never have I met a cat who likes to be petted so much! Frida also is adamant that her big brother take time to groom her-- she is a lady who knows her worth. Although black cats may not have the most exciting coat patterns, they can more than make up for it with personality! She has made navigating her health issues more than worthwhile and has completely melted my heart.
