Molly was a rescue from Arkansas when she was approximately four years young. She has been my best friend and walking companion for almost ten years. She has a tattoo in her ear that tells me she was a very good hunter. She had at least two litters before she ran off. I adopted her from the rescue without question based on her good setter looks. I had several setters, retrievers and mixed hunting dogs before Molly and thought I “knew all there was to know about training a field setter”! With some help from A & B members Molly has been teaching me something new every week.
Toys? “What should I do with these things”? Molly would look and smell and walk away. She got to watch some of the dogs on our hikes chasing a ball. “I can do that”! This was her opportunity to show her speed. Frequently she would win the race and come back with the ball.
She is still extremely timid in new situations in the home. Outside on our walks and in the field she is a “thing of beauty”. During her early years she could run like the wind and freeze on point for a mallard or any game bird. If allowed, she would stay on point for 10 minutes. Friends and walkers would watch her and many were amazed at her skills in the field.
My best friend Molly!
