Share your setter’s story and why he/she should be our next Cover Star!
My name is Oakley and I was adopted from Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue. I am entering my photo into the calendar photo contest because I think it perfectly tells my story of the beauty behind rescue and adoption. Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue saved me from the streets when I was abandoned by my previous owner. English Setters like me are often abandoned or put up for adoption due to our high energy levels or our inability to hunt up to our owner’s standards. A lot of people don’t know how loving and affectionate we can be once we get our energy out and how smart and helpful we are when we get the attention/training we need. I love this picture of me because it shows my beauty, but I think it is also important for people to see the fear and uncertainty in this photo and to know that it is something I deal with on a daily basis as a result of my abusive past with my previous owner. I have a lot of anxiety and trust issues but my mom is working on it with me and I am grateful to be with a family that loves me for me. I even encouraged my mom to start her own pet photography business, Setter Marie Photography!
