My beautiful Roxy lived to run, play scent games, hunt bunnies and chipmunks, and be my shadow. According to her previous owners, she was half Llewellin, a quarter Border Collie and a quarter English Pointer. Not surprisingly, she was incredibly intelligent and eager to learn and please, but was a handful when bored. She made up her own scent games (find the treats on the counter or those remaining in pockets of jackets and pants) and found her own new toys (soft-sided crates were great fun to shred even if she wasn't confined in one). Her dashes to and fro on unleased walks were typically only interrupted by rolling in such stinky stuff as she came across in the country: deer bones, goose droppings, and more things that I didn't really want to identify, She had everything it would take to be an excellent human remains detection dog except a sound heart. When I adopted her at age 7, she still had an undiagnosed PDA (congenital hole in the heart) which was closed with surgery but left her with an enlarged heart, heart murmurs and arrhythmias, none of which slowed her down but ultimately proved fatal in a very cold winter. RIP my lovely, sweet dog.
