A little about me...
Petals has had a rough year! In July ‘25 her right eye got very “squinty.” It was diagnosed as an really rare condition called Neurogenic Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca. This is beyond “dry eye” as it is a neurological condition that affects only the right side of her head, so she had right “dry nose” as well. The vet said he had been practicing for 20+ years and this was the first time he had encountered it. Even the pharmacist had filled this oral human prescription for a dog (for life!) only twice in her career. To be safe, we took her to an ophthalmologist and she discovered a large hole in that eye as well. Emergency surgery ensued…YIKES! It involved cutting out a part of the “pinky” part of her eye and making a patch to be sewn over the hole…YUCK! Since she was already blind in her left eye from an inflamed optic nerve right after we got her 6 years ago, we didn’t want to risk her becoming TOTALLY blind! So, it was 9 weeks in a cone (while I was going through knee replacement surgery…really bad timing!), 7 different ‘scripts (one mixed with her own blood that had to be drawn weekly), 31 doses/day and weekly appts. for 12 wks. She’s down to 3 ‘scripts and 10 doses/day for life now. At least she can see out of the bottom part of 1 eye! Her last appt. is Wed. YEAH! Rough year for all but she’s worth it!
