Your Pet's Story
My husband and I got Freyja on January 1st, 2024, our at-the-time anniversary. We had been about to leave the house to go to dinner when we got an email that our adoption application had been approved. I immediately emailed back, and we ended up going to the home where 8-week old Freyja and her siblings were being fostered.

We were living in New Hampshire at the time, and Freyja's litter had just arrived in the state earlier that day. We were the first to see the litter, and it was love at first sight. We filled out the paperwork, paid the adoption fee, and took her home with us. She was immediately part of our little family, sleeping at the top of the bed between me and the edge the first night, until she fell off the bed and started crying. I picked her up, put her back on the bed, and she spent the rest of the night sleeping between me and husband where she couldn’t fall off.

She was a very energetic puppy, terrorizing her older sister (also a rescue), and just generally being a menace. She grew quickly, eventually outgrowing her sister but not getting quite as big as my husband had hoped.

Last October, we drove halfway across the country during our move back to Colorado, and she spent two and a half days being anxious and annoyed at her sister for taking up too much of the crate. We stayed at two hotels for a night and for the first night, she slept in the crate with her sister. For about 9 months before the move, she had been sleeping in her own crate in the living room. The second night, she decided that if she wasn’t allowed to sleep with us, then nobody was going to sleep at all, and she began barking her head off. We caved, and let her out of the crate. She promptly jumped on the bed and passed out. The next night, we were back in Colorado and she has been allowed to sleep on the bed ever since.

Freyja is an amazing dog. She is incredibly smart, and has so much personality. She learns rules and patterns very quickly, and always wants to be the best dog she can be. She can never get away with being naughty, because she always tells on herself with her guilty behavior, but she is always very apologetic and overjoyed when we forgive her. She loves the snow, and will often stick her face right in it and then lay down, happy as a clam.

We’re currently working on getting her more comfortable with leaving the house and meeting people and other dogs. We take her and her sister to the dog park, where she has begun to overcome her anxiety through the power of her jealousy towards her outgoing sister, who receives lots of attention and pets at the dog park.

My husband and I love Freyja so much, and she is one of the best dogs either of us have ever met. Being her mom has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my life, and I am so glad to know and love her.
