Pet's Story or Bio
We adopted Ben into our family from a rescue organization. He was about 2 years old, (based on veterinarian estimate). Underweight scared and walking with a limp, he had been starved and beaten in his past life. He initially displayed significant resource guarding issues, PTSD-like behavior with bouts of unexplained aggression, and was in terrible shape. We later found out his limp came from another past tragedy. Apparently, he was shot in the front elbow with a 22 cal rifle when he was a puppy. The vet estimates this happened when he was around 6 months of age and the shrapnel cannot be removed. It took lots of training, love, and rehabilitation to help him overcome these obstacles and learn that humans, family and home can be a good thing. No longer in fear or fighting for food, the beautiful spirit within him started to emerge. He is the joy of my life and is such a loving soul. He gets along well with rabbits, cats, and children. He is now a therapy dog who visits nursing homes and participates in Paws to Read and other children's reading programs at our local library. We are so thankful that a caring rescue organization saved him from his past life, so that he could be part of our family.
