Mad-Eye Maddie is a dog with special, perhaps mystical gifts. Not unlike her canine brethren who rescue lost hikers or find contraband in luggage, her skill is specific and targeted: to find the most gullible humans to take her home. Maddie honed her skills for two years as a resident of the Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue in Richmond, carefully eyeing each human who passed by her dogloo. Those who know Maddie appreciate the challenge of this task, since Maddie was born blind and subsequently had one eye removed. She was aided by her double-wide cleft nose that enhanced her gullible-seeking senses. This June, Maddie chose a hapless couple who, as they drove in, reminded each other that this was merely a scouting mission and no dog, repeat, no dog, would be going home with them. An hour later, Maddie was on her way to her new home, where morning walks, picnics, pubs, and sofa-surfing have become favorite pastimes. Maddie is a kind, loving, and benevolent guardian to her new family.
