Short story about your dog
We got a call about Herman from a rescue that we had worked with previously. The head of the rescue told us, “boy do I have the train wreck for you!” At 15 years old, he was deaf, completely blind in one eye, partially blind in the other, had lost most of his hair, and had horrible teeth. And that was just the obvious stuff. He’d not yet seen the vet.
We agreed that we would at least meet the dog, who the rescue had lovingly dubbed “the swamp monster“ due to his crazy tusks. It was early on during Covid, so we drove to the foster’s house, and she brought him outside. We met him, took him to our car and played with him for a few minutes. My husband and I decided that we would adopt this pup, but that he would need to be fully vetted first. I mean, it’s usually a good idea to know what you’re getting into.
I took the dog back to the foster, who told me that he could not get into see the vet for at least a month, but if we wanted to take him on the spot, he was ours.
Luckily my husband loves me and puts up with my shenanigans. He just rolled his eyes and asked me, “what happened to taking him after he was fully vetted?” Oops.
Hermie’s great loves are kayaking, car rides, chicken McNuggets, and sleeping on my desk while I work.
