Hi, I’m Zara! I was surrendered to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria in September 2013. I am a Belgian Malinois. I have a lot of energy and used to be told all of the time to stop barking and calm down. That’s just not me. Thankfully, the AWLA works closely with the Alexandria Police Department and knew exactly who would understand me – their K9 unit! I was partnered with Officer Steven Escobar and he helped me through Basic K-9 School. Officer Escobar is the best and I get to go home with him every night and be a part of his family. I graduated today - Wednesday, August 13, 2014 – and I’m now an official police dog!! I will serve in the Alexandria Police Department’s K-9 Unit with Officer Escobar to protect and serve the citizens of Alexandria!!
