I first visited the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria in April just wanting to check out the dogs available for adoption, and when I met Oreo (who I now call Ghost), he seemed to immediately attach to me. The staff shared that he had not been that affectionate with any other visitor, and had been there going on 6 months. After going home without him, I couldn't stop thinking about him so I went back the following week to adopt him! He immediately seemed to have a weight lifted from him when he got home with me, running around, playing with toys, and claiming the right side of the couch as permanent "dibs." He is an Australian cattle dog, and the vet says he is about two years old, but he has the heart of a puppy still for sure, and he has already proved his impressive manners and ability to learn commands and tricks. He loves staying active and going on long walks, strolling through a nearby creek with plenty of birds and ducks to watch, joining me on runs, and playing fetch with his ball (which seems to need to be replaced at least every few weeks!). I am so glad that we found each other, I can't imagine not coming home to him jumping up and down in excitement to see me!
