I adopted Sage in January from another area rescue, learning later that she was surrendered after a major drug bust in North Carolina. She arrived terrified of pretty much everything, and to put it mildly, sick as a dog - 15 pounds underweight due to a severe case of worms, a permanently damaged eye from a shelter accident, and suffering from a UTI and untreated allergies too.

5 months later, my brave, little dog is turning the corner. Thanks to the tremendous 'village' of people around us - Old Town VCA in Alexandria, Furgetmenot in Shirlington, friends, co-workers and family, Sage is healthy and happier. We have a long way to go to help her realize that the world is not a scary place, but as this picture of her doing her favorite thing ever - going on a road trip - attests, we are both excited about the future!
