Is Your Pet an AWLA Alumnus?Yes
Your Pet's Story or BioMikey (previously named Nike) lived with a family of 2 adults and 4 children for most of his nine years. For whatever reason his family put him in shelter in West VA which transferred him to AWLA in July 2015. The little guy, a Maltese mix weighing 12 pounds, had to have most of his teeth removed - they were abcessed and/or loose. I fortunately was the first one to see Mikey and decided to adopt him on the spot - my beautiful Lhasa (another AWLA graduate) had passed away at age 16 about 14 months previously and the time was right. Mikey has been a challenge and a joy because one week after I adopted him, I sustained a leg injury, followed by a fall and broken bones in my foot on Christmas 2015 - and have been unable to walk for nearly 8 months. During my recuperation, Mikey was walked by about 14 different people and managed to adapt to the style and habits of each. Being a rescue Mikey has some issues -- men, big dogs -- but we are slowly helping him overcome his fears. He is a love bug that brings me lots of joy.
