Checkers was a 10 years old Lhasa Apso when we adopted him from Friends of Homeless Animals. He had been given up by an elderly gentleman who could no longer care for Checkers due to his own illnesses. Checkers was clearly a loved pet and came to a loving home. He had numerous allergies and we took him to a canine dermatologist at Cornell University's Vet School in Ithaca, New York. He had to be on a special diet of fish and vegetables. Checkers died at the age of 15 and this photo is one that expresses his personality.
