I adopted Houston in 2011 from the Humane Society of San Bernardino County.
He is a gentle, loyal, loving and sometimes heroic companion to our family. He is protective, sweet and patient with our baby girl and our 4-year-old boy.
He loves his best friend and adopted mother Lucy (also a chihuahua, a year older than him, from the same shelter). He loves to show off how fast he can run and play chase. He tries to play with the cat, Alice (an ARF kitty), but she won't have it.
He is curious and attentive. We call him our "Scout" because he's always patrolling the yard for any sight, smell or sound out of the ordinary.
One night several years ago he woke us up by barking frantically. I was pregnant sleeping in the bedroom and Houston was in his crate in the other room, where he always sleeps. The cat (now passed) had knocked over a lamp, which was burning a hole in the arm of our couch and a small fire was beginning to smolder. He smelled the smoke and let us know in time to stop it before it started to flame. We were beyond grateful.
He's a true friend, an important member of our crew and we couldn't imagine life without him.
