Pet's Story or BioLucia came to us at around 9 months as a three-time shelter return, but fit our family perfectly as a playmate for Tycho, matching his intense play drive. She is always alert, keeping us company late into the night when we use our telescope, welcoming guests with a wag and positioning herself for a back- or belly-rub. Lucia is earnest in her own goofy way, tireless in play or as "lead sled dog" on the Idyllwild trails, making me laugh more than any dog I've known. A keen hunter, she excels at biscuit or toy hunts, yodelling when she feels cheated, as when T-pup grabs the toy she sniffed out first. She'll address him directly, then look to me for justice. She also scolds with a warble if I'm late with dinner, though she's quick to forgive, with a lick and a smile.
Now a teenager, she was fearless in her prime as an agility dog; in class, she approached the ramps with such gusto I half-expected her to become airborne! She and her partner Tycho were called "Stunt Dogs" around Seal Beach for their cleverness at wall-walking and jumping into coral tree branches. Although she looks very like several Labradoodles we know, her DNA test revealed some purebred Chow, German Shepherd mixes, and - surprise! - a Cocker Spaniel ancestor as well. We'll never know the whole story of her past, but she's written a great life story with us, and has the photo archives to prove it. The photo shows her in Idyllwild after a major snowstorm, posing as Snow Queen.
