Pet's Story or BioWhen I first received photos of Daphne from "Papillon Haven Rescue", I found it hard to believe that this delicate puppy had never had a home. Daphne had spent the first six months of her life surviving on the streets of Long Beach. Following this, she spent three months with a foster family that specialized in rehabilitating problematic rescues. Daphne was considered a tough case not because she was mean, but simply because she was scared of everyone. During my first meeting with Daphne, she was not receptive to being petted. It took two hours of gentle coaxing before she finally allowed me to hold her, but even then she still trembled and pushed me away. I began to question whether adopting her was a good idea; she was not going to be the cuddly puppy that I felt I needed. At the time, I had just gone through a string of personal tragedies; I had lost my job, my dog of 18 years, and then suddenly my mother. I wondered how this trembling little dog could help me. Daphne needed more love than I thought I had to give. But when I looked into her eyes, I couldn't give her back. So, I resolved to do my best to provide her with a loving home.
Thirteen years have passed since then, and I'm proud to say that Daphne is now a happy dog. She enjoys stealing socks, chasing flys, going to the Middle Ridge Winery in her backpack, and getting snacks from her Daddy. But most of all, she loves to be held and cuddled.
