Artist Statement (include type of art, techniques & materials used, what it means to you)
Here is a final digital piece created from a hand sewn brain and collage background I created myself.
I decided to explore the question ‘who am I.’ My idea was to show the inner me, and what you can NOT see from the outside.
I used a scan of my own brain to stitch into and show what is on the inside. A side profile picture of myself was taken to show myself on the outside. And a collage backdrop I made by using old wallpaper as the base layer, the wording ‘Craniopharyngioma’ by cutting out individual letters from magazines, coffee dripped to give pigments of brown and emulsion to build texture that I scraped away bits of when dry as if something underneath was being revealed.
I then scanned all 3 pieces into photoshop where I them layered them and and edited the contrast and hues. This final piece also gives a effect of what you would see on a Brain MRI just in brighter happier colours as opposed to black and white.
