This piece uses unique integration of pressed flowers, marker, colored pencil, glitter glue, and glitter pens. It began with a pressed flower in the middle of the page but made me think that it looked just like a butterfly. From there I added the butterfly parts to the pressed flower and spent great time and detail on the background using tiny circles to depict a night scene. The pressed flower at the top corner represents the moon. It means peace and beauty to me. Samaya is 9.5 years old and was diagnosed at 8 years old with Craniopharyngioma. She is 1.5 years post op. When she was diagnosed at 8, she was nearly blind and couldn't see color. She was grateful after the surgery she was able to "get her art Spirit back". Samaya has always been passionate about art. Even at 3 years old, she had the attention span and dedication to sit and make art with great detail. She is a very creative child who loves making all kinds of art: drawing, painting, pressed flowers, working with dye, tie dyed clothing, jewelry making and decorative theatrical mask making. Look for her in the future at artbysamaya.com.
