Artist Statement (include type of art, techniques & materials used, what it means to you)The art I submitted isa painting done with acrylics on a denim jacket.
I love painting wearable art. I also created the design. The first version of the design I created for my grandson, Alex (Raymond A.) Wood. He loves anything that has to do with water and shells. Over the last six months I have created versions of the design adding flowers and painting jackets for many of my friends as gifts. I love giving gifts that are original and painted by me. Each jacket I create is a little different with the person in mind. This jacket I finally painted for myself with waterlilies added to the design.
Bio (include your age, tumor type and date of diagnosis)I am the 73 year-old grandmother of Alex Wood, a brain tumor survivor. Alex was diagnosed in May 2010, which really changed his life and the life of our family forever. My daughter, Amy Wood, and her husband, Shawn, founded this foundation. Amy is now the Director. Her father and I are very proud of the work she is doing to help survivors and their families. From the time of Alex's diagnosis, Amy has tirelessly sought resources to help him and others.
I am also enormously proud of Alex and consider "Grandma" my favorite title. Alex deals with medical problems no child should have to face, but that does not stop him from thinking of others. He recently agreed to take part in research to help others. Every time I see him he has a picture he drew or a bracelet he made for me. I am proud to participate in this fund raiser to raise money for this foundation that is so dear to my heart. So please give me a vote or two to help Alex and others. Help me raise money to help Amy fulfill the dreams she has for the work the Foundation can do.
