Chewy: a rescue Yorkinese and a joy of my life!
When he was younger, he taught himself to climb the baby gate and was determined to be by my side every minute of every day! You couldn’t tell him he wasn’t the boss — so of course, he was extra spoiled; and a silly goof ball… the perfect blend of the regality of the Pekingese and the spunk and grit of the Yorkshire Terrier.
He developed diabetes and we found out in March 2021 when we almost lost him to keto acidosis. He was fighter though and made it through. I didn’t realize we could get anymore bonded but nursing him back to health, twice daily injections and going blind would show me different. I got to know all his new nuances and expressions and made every day extra fun. We enjoyed the most glorious 13 months until his passing on 4/9/22, at 9 years old.
His loss was devastating and I grieve him every day. I hope Chewy can shed some light on the importance of diagnosing and treating canine diabetes as soon as possible. He was a friend to the end and I will love him always!
