Noctis is a one year old German shepherd who is in training to become a search and rescue dog, so that as a K9 team, he and I can reunite lost or missing individuals with their friends and family. He is learning to become a trailing dog, which is a discipline in which the K9 follows the exact path (or close to it) that the missing person took by their scent trail, while ignoring any distractions or smells which don’t match that of the subject. Upon locating the missing individual which matches the scent he’s trailing, he offers a TFR (trained final response) to let the search party know “This is the person”! He loves nothing more than his ball on rope reward, and will work without giving up under any circumstance. When he isn’t working, he loves our regular trips to a local river and engaging in lots of fetch and retrieve games.
