A little about me...
After having lost our last two dogs in 2015 and 2018, we were not looking to bring a dog into our family again yet, despite our kids asking for a dog all the time. But thanks to our friends, Onyx found his way into our home and our hearts in May 2022. He was about 2.5 years old and had lived with a couple in Kansas since he was a puppy. As we understand it, the couple were going through a divorce and it became a problem to keep the dog, so they surrendered him back to the breeders, our friends now living in Buena Vista. They had three dogs of their own (including Onyx’s mom and dad) so they began selectively searching for the right home for him. They asked us if we were ready to have a dog again, and we said no, but also agreed to casually meet him. All it took was a couple meetings to know Onyx was special. His temperament was so sweet and calm, but he also still had the playful exuberance of a puppy. We brought Onyx home while our kids (ages 11 and 8) were away with the grandparents. We kept the whole decision making process a secret to them! Onyx seemed content with us while he explored his new home and yard. But when the kids came home a few hours later and smothered him with excitement and love, you could tell his happiness reached a whole new level! He was smiling!! Onyx has been a perfect fit for our family and we are so glad we made the decision to bring a dog into our home, our family and our hearts again.
