Rules

Submit your pet's photo with a completed online entry form for $10. All photo entries must be uploaded starting Friday, May 1 until 11:59:59 pm PDT, on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. Voting for the 2021 AVHS Pet Photo Calendar Contest ends at 10pm PDT, on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

As of 10pm, PDT, Tuesday, October 13, 2020, AVHS staff will determine those photographs that have the highest vote totals. The finalists will be announced via email to all contest participants on or after Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

Final winners will also be posted on the AVHS website and AVHS Facebook page on Friday, October 16, 2020.

Below are rules for entry:
The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. AVHS reserves the right to change procedural rules regarding this contest to facilitate its fairness and completion. Void where prohibited by law. Contestants or subjects in the photographs submitted who are 18-years-of-age and under on May 1, 2020, may participate in the Contest with their parents' or guardian's assistance and permission. Employees, volunteers and family members of AVHS and its affiliates are also eligible to participate. Individuals may submit more than one photo but keep in mind those friends and family votes add up, spreading those votes among multiple photos limits your chances of winning.

Entrants are required to complete and sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability Release when submitting their online entry. Entrants will accept the terms and rules of the contest when completing online submission. There will be a link to the terms and affidavit on the contest website.

In the event of noncompliance with the Official 2021 AVHS Pet Photo Calendar Contest Rules, or if the contact to the winning pet owner is unsuccessful, that winning photograph's place in the calendar will be forfeited and may be awarded to an alternate winner by October 16.


Out of concern for wild and non-domesticated animals, the 2021 AVHS Pet Photo Contest is limited to the following species of pets: dog, cat, potbellied pig, rabbit, horse, hamster, gerbil, guinea pig, ferret, mouse, rat, caged birds, aquarium fish and domestic farm animals. Humans may also be in the picture. Multiple pets may be in the photo. Images that include any animal species other than those listed above will be removed from the Contest and the entry fee will be forfeited.


Polaroid, black and white photos or copyrighted professional photos will not be accepted. All photos must depict animals in a humane and dignified manner. Any image that includes advertising, content that is deemed inappropriate, indecent, obscene, as determined by the staff of AVHS in their sole discretion, will be removed from the Contest and the entry fee will be forfeited. We will only accept pictures that have not been altered with editing software.

• Photos must be submitted by the pet owner or with the permission of the pet owner. If the photo was taken by someone other than the pet owner (professional or amateur) permission must be granted from the person who legally owns the photo. Photos taken by a minor must be submitted by a legal guardian.
• Provide a digital color photo in horizontal layout saved to the highest resolution as a .jpg or (JPEG) format. The original photo should be no smaller than 3648 pixels by 2736 pixels @ 72 dpi. If the photo is too small, it will be disqualified for use in the calendar portion of the contest due to printing constraints.
• All submitted photos become the property of Auburn Valley Humane Society to be used at their discretion for any and all marketing purposes.
• If you are one of the top 14 winners and the photo you submitted is poor quality (will not reproduce well in the calendar) and cannot be sufficiently improved for publication, we will alert you and give you an opportunity to send in a replacement photo of the same pet(s).

Each entrant must provide a BRIEF description (75 words or less) of how your pet has improved your life upon entering the Contest. Submissions with more words may be modified, changed or edited to fit the available space requirement. Entrants are reminded that friends, family and co-workers will be voting on the photo submission as well as the brief description.


Each vote is a $1 donation. Vote as often and as many times as you wish. Credit cards are accepted via a secure server. Every vote is tax deductible and goes to a great cause ~

Changing Lives…Four Paws at a Time!

Encourage your friends, family and co-workers to vote for your photo online – you may email links to family/friends to vote. Remember, voting ends Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 10pm PDT.

When registering votes, you agree to receive emails from AVHS for contest publicity purposes.

The photo with the highest vote count will be featured on the front cover in addition to a monthly page. In the event of a tie with the highest number of votes, whichever photo that reaches first is the winner of the cover spot. In the case of a tie for the 14^th, 15^th and 16^th spot, the two/three photos will share a monthly page.


As of 10pm PDT, Tuesday, October 13, 2020, AVHS Staff will verify the votes/ donation totals and determine those photographs that have the highest voting totals. Entrants are encouraged to select the best images and descriptions. It is the opinion of AVHS contest organizers that the voting/pledging public will be judging entries on the quality of the image, the quality of the story explaining how this pet improves the contestant's life, and how well the image captures the life-enhancing qualities of the pet. The finalists will be announced via email to all contest participants on or after Wednesday, October 14, 2020. All efforts will be made to notify finalists at the contact point contestants provide in their Entry Form. If AVHS is unable to reach a finalist after all reasonable efforts, that winning photograph's place in the calendar will be forfeited and may be awarded to an alternate winner by October 16.


Warranties. When you enter the "Auburn Valley Humane Society 2021 Pet Photo Calendar Contest", you verify that the photograph is original, that you are the sole owner and copyright holder of that photograph, and that you have not granted exclusive rights of that photograph to any other person or entity. All photos entered into the Contest cannot have been entered into any other organization's photo contest where you have lost the rights of ownership to the picture. You also verify that the photograph does not invade the right of privacy of any individual, does not infringe any trademark, trade name, trade secret, intellectual property right, or other common law or statutory right, nor does it contain any material that otherwise violates any criminal prohibition or the personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity. .

Grant of Rights. By entering the "Auburn Valley Humane Society 2021 Pet Photo Calendar Contest", you agree to grant to AVHS, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive right and permission to use, modify, adapt, reproduce, publish, and distribute the photograph, or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or any other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright, and without notification or payment, in connection with the "Auburn Valley Humane Society 2021 Pet Photo Calendar Contest". AVHS agrees to attribute authorship and copyright ownership to you when it publishes and distributes the photograph you submitted. AVHS also agrees that it will never sell the photograph or rights in the photograph to any individual or entity.


When you enter the "Auburn Valley Humane Society 2021 Pet Photo Calendar Contest", you verify that the description of how your pet improves your life is original, that you are the sole author and copyright holder of the description, and that you have not granted exclusive rights in that description to any other person or entity. You also verify that the description contains no defamatory material or injurious instructions, does not invade the right of privacy of any individual, does not infringe any trademark, trade name, trade secret, intellectual property right, or other common law or statutory right; nor does it contain any material that otherwise violates any criminal prohibition or the personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity. .

You also agree to grant to AVHS, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive right and permission to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and distribute the description, or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or any other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright, and without notification or payment, as part of and in connection with the "Auburn Valley Humane Society 2021 Pet Photo Calendar ". AVHS will not use your description for any purposes not connected with the "Auburn Valley Humane Society 2021 Pet Photo Calendar". AVHS will never sell the description or rights in the description to any individual or entity. AVHS agrees to attribute authorship and copyright ownership to you when it publishes and distributes the description you submitted.


By accepting the terms of placement in the "Auburn Valley Humane Society 2021 Pet Photo Calendar", the winner consents to AVHS's use of his or her name, likeness, voice, and/or biographical information for promotional and other purposes without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law. The winner acknowledges compliance with these Rules and agrees to release AVHS, its affiliates, and its officers, directors, employees, independent contractors, representatives, and agents from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Contest or the receipt, redemption, or use of any prize, including any injuries or damages of any kind sustained in connection with the use, acceptance, possession, or awarding of any prize.


AVHS is not responsible for printing, typographical, human or other errors of any kind in any Contest-related materials or for stolen, lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, or illegible entries. If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned, or infection by computer viruses, bugs, or tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, actions of entrants, technical failures, or any other causes corrupt or infect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Contest, AVHS reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any entry or entrant and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest and at its sole discretion. By entering, all Contestants agree that the Contest is governed by laws of the State of Washington for the resolution of all claims and disputes (excluding any claims against or disputes involving parties other than AVHS relating to the Contest).
