A little about me...Hi! I'm Cactus, a Southwest Virginia rescue with a soft white coat, brown spots, and a reputation for turning heads on King Street. I was named by my human when she was six, inspired by her favorite plant. I like to think the name suits me: distinctive, resilient, and occasionally a little prickly around suspiciously tall adults.
I'm sweet and affectionate with people, especially kids. I enjoy playing with my dog cousins, Sunny and Kudzu, keeping an eye on neighborhood squirrels, bunnies, and chipmunks, and sampling a wide variety of crunchy vegetables. Carrots and bell peppers the best.
My family tree includes German Shepherds, Pit Bulls, Boxers, Poodles, Beagles, American Eskimo Dogs, and Chihuahuas, which may help explain a few things.
I have no formal education, but I can sit, shake, and lie down with professionalism. My greatest weakness is digging. If there's a chipmunk underground, I simply have to know about it.
I also enjoy singing along with passing sirens whenever the mood strikes. Otherwise, you'll usually find me sleeping, going for long walks in the neighborhood, cooling off in a creek on a hot summer day, or stopping by local shops to inspect their treat jars. It's a pretty good life.
If your animal is from a specific animal shelter/rescue organization, let us know what organization. If they're an Animal Welfare League of Alexandria alum, their photo will have a special badge in the printed calendar!Homeward Trails
