Between the Thanksgiving & Christmas holidays last year my new family unexpectedly lost their 12 year old Yorkie and I lost my mom after a long illness. I had so many wonderful friends in my old neighborhood that helped care for me then but let’s face it, it is not easy to find a “furever” home when you are an 8 year old Rottweiler/Lab mix that weighs 108lbs and you have orthopedic issues. Through more coincidences than I can share in this space, I landed with my new family and we’ve healed each other’s hearts.
In the 7 months that I have been in my new home I have had my ACL repaired, got sick suddenly and almost died, requiring surgery to have a non-cancerous, softball size mass removed from my spleen (all while my new mom was at a meeting across country, boy did THAT scare my new dad!) and am down to what my wonderful “Dogtor” calls a healthy weight for me, 86lbs! My new family calls me a gentle giant, when the little humans in the family visit I become part jungle gym, part speed bump & part pillow.
Why would I make a GREAT spokesdog for PAALS? I am now healthier that I have been in years with a new “leash” on life. I am living proof that when everything is at its darkest there will be humans that will come into your life and make it better than you could have ever imagined.
