My house backs onto the forest and I first saw the bears through the window. As I stepped out onto my back deck to take a photo of a momma bear eating Mountain Ash berries off of the bush that was only 40 feet away, she turned her head and stared right at me for a split second before returning to her lunch. It was just long enough for me to take one quick photo. Her cubs were playing in the thick bush next to her but were too shy to pose for photos.
