This is Olive. She lost her eye as a baby when her nest tree blew down in a windstorm. On the recommendation of the experts at OWL rehab she was placed in a laundry basket we hung in a nearby tree. Her mom adopted the new nest in under 30 minutes and Olive fledged naturally a few weeks later. She amazingly adapted to the injury and learned to hunt in the wild with only one eye. This photo was taken in the fall over a year later when she was fully grown and living in the wild despite her disability. The ability of nature to overcome and thrive against the odds is truly amazing.
