About

How to Enter
Starting July 2, photos taken of wildlife in B.C. can be entered into the Wildlife-in-Focus photography contest. Please review the Contest Rules for photo requirements. The contest closes on July 22, and winners will be announced in the following weeks. There is no maximum number of entries, however, if you have entered a photo in a previous Wildlife-in-Focus contest, please do not re-enter the photo in this contest. There is also a donate-to-vote option for a People's Choice Award. The top photos with the most votes and judge’s picks will be featured in an exclusive Wildlife-in-Focus hot beverage thermosavailable for purchase later in the year. Donations made in support of a photo are tax-receiptable and valued at one vote for every $1.00 donated. All proceeds will support thousands of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife in the care of the BC SPCA Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (Wild ARC). Payment is made on a secure web page using a major credit card.

The BC SPCA uses your personal information to update you on our work for animals as well as for advertising and analytics purposes.
More information on uses and how to opt-out can be found in our
Privacy Policy.

Judging
The BC SPCA Wildlife-in-Focus Photography Contest is open to all photographers at least 14 years of age*, with the exception of Wild ARC employees. All photographs must be taken in British Columbia. The BC SPCA reserves the right to verify, in its sole judgment, winner eligibility.

We are looking for striking images from green spaces, beaches, roadsides, and your backyard, that represent the resiliency of local wildlife living at the interface with humans.

Photographs will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, and artistic merit. All decisions by the judges will be final and binding. In addition to the judge's choices, there will also be a donate-to-vote People's Choice Award.

* Youth 13 and under can participate in BC SPCA Kid's Club contests

Categories
All photos will be sorted by the contest coordinators into one of two categories. The BC SPCA reserves the right to determine the appropriate category. Please provide the location and circumstances of the photo to assist us in determining the correct category.

Wild Settings: Local wild animals found in their natural habitats around British Columbia.

Backyard Habitats: Wildlife in this category can include, but is not limited to, the ingenious behaviours of urban wild animals using man-made structures or habitats (birds at feeders, perching on buildings, etc.) in British Columbia.

All images must be digital and photos may be colour or black and white. Photographers may enter a single or multiple images; there is no maximum number of entries per participant.
