Bio
Sarah ( originally Sadie) was 4 or 5 years old when I adopted her from the SPCA in Dawson Creek. I had come to the SPCA looking for a small dog, but when I took her for a walk with a smaller dog, I was struck by the look of hopelessness in her eyes and the way she kept turning her head to avoid any glance or eye contact. The SPCA workers said that the people who owned her complained that she was out of control and chasing cars. They said her owners had been in a hurry to get rid of her. After a few days I returned to the SPCA and decided to adopt her. Once I got her home I noticed that she would startle with any sudden movement, sometimes actually cowering on the floor if you even raised your hand to brush the hair out of your eyes. Sarah always hid any treat that we gave her until everyone was in bed, then we would hear her eating it. She never ate all the food in her dish, keeping some for a late night or early morning snack, I introduced her to my friends at the Thrift Shop. They all were haunted by the hopeless look in her eyes. I really wondered if I had taken on something more than I could handle,
I need not have worried. Today she is a happy, beautiful, calm animal that not only makes eye contact but gazes into our eyes and cuddles up beside us. She eats all her food at once because she trusts that she will get fed every day, When anyone makes a sudden movement she jumps up joyously hoping to go for another walk. Watching her trust grow and her beautiful spirit emerge was unlike anything I have ever seen in an animal. She never did chase cars.
