Aero is a seven-year-old Jack Russell Pomeranian mix who loves to hike, play, give kisses and meet new people. He is very well trained and will wipe his paws on comand before coming into the house, among many other tricks. He loves to sleep by the fireplace in the winter and outside in the sun during summer months.

I spent two years volunteering at the SPCA walking dogs. It sounds like a fun thing to do, which it was.... but it was also very sad. Every day I would hope each dog found a new home and good owners to love him.

People often think of SPCA dogs as troubled or there is something wrong with them. This is not always the case. I recall one dog that came into the SPCA one morning on a quiet day. He was a very loving small brown dog (I don't remember the breed) and looked really sad. I was told he had a great, loving home and his owner who was retired had passed away. The poor little guy was probably missing him and I wondered if he knew what happened. He eventually was adopted by a mother and her two kids who were excited to take him home.

Owning a dog offers so many benefits to leading a healthy lifestyle. They get you outside every day for some fresh air and exercise. Did you know that just petting a dog can lower your heart rate and blood pressure? Pet owners also tend to lead a social lifestyle - always meeting people in their neighbourhood while walking their dogs. And think about how many times your dog has made you smile...
