Lexy and I met when we needed each other most. I had just lost my senior dog Pete, to an auto immune disease, IMHA, and my heart was broken. Lexy was a throw-away from a shady backyard breeder in care for months at the BC SPCA Vancouver branch. She desperately waited for her forever home and to finally know what it was like to be loved. Lexy's spirits were low as she was continually overlooked due to the physical signs of overbreeding and the fact that she was a senior and a pitbull. Only one application for adoption was ever submitted for Lexy... and I am eternally happy that that one application was from me.

Where others saw perceived 'flaws' I only saw perfection. Lexy was pure love and I made it my mission to give her the life she so urgently deserved.

It's been two years since Lexy agreed to join my family and I fell blessed every day that she shares her life with me. Lexy has taught me so much about forgiveness and humility. At 10 years young she has let go of her past and now only enjoys a present and a future of unconditional love. And for me.. to have earned the love of a senior dog, to have earned the privilege to always be by her side is the most amazing gift.
