I met Autolycus when he was just a six month old kitten living at the veterinary practice I was doing working at as part of my school practicum.
He was a rambunctious, goofing looking kitten who had yet to grow into his rather large nose. He was friendly and like to talk to everyone a lot.
He was from a family of kittens that were rescued as newborns. All his brother and sisters had been adopted as had he, but he was later returned to the clinic as he was apparently too much for his new human to handle, energetic, curious and getting into everything.
It broke my heart to see this goofy and beautiful little boy sitting in a kennel all day just because he, like most children, had too much energy to sit still and just wanted to explore.
He gave me a chance and I gave him a new name and was able to adopt him myself and after three days of him being much too still and hesitant of his new surroundings and of being afraid he would be sent back I think, he settled into his new life with me. His energetic personality back in force. He turns 9 years old this summer and I have never regretted my decision to adopt my Autolycus....even if I did really like that one vase....
There is nothing like being greeted at the door when you come home from someone who loves and misses you so much that even after just a few hours they want to run to see you again.
