Cheeka is an Australian Shepherd, Poodle, and Golden Retriever mix in a mini size. She joined our family in 2013 and today weighs in with 13.5 lbs. The photo shows Cheeka experiencing the joys of playing in the first snow she experienced in her life.

Cheeka shares the household with our cat, Snorkel. He is a male tabby who was born under a palmetto bush during a hurricane in Cedar Key, Florida, some 15 years ago, when we used to live there. Snorkel has accepted the arrival of his little sister, Cheeka, with great patience. Possibly because he was used to sharing his life with dogs, as Cheeka was preceded by our beloved Beagle, Nico, who essentially raised Snorkel.

We now live in Nanaimo, BC, where I recently started working in the Community Council of the local SPCA. We are all excited here with the upcoming opening of our new shelter that will be home for critters of all sizes and shapes until they find a new 'forever home'.
